Day 1
Arrive at the John Deere Tractor Assembly Plant in Waterloo. View a 20-minute film on the history of John Deere, and then hop aboard a trolley and follow the building of the world-famous green tractors. Amazing technology is the watchword here as you learn how it all fits together. Afterwards, shop for your favorite green merchandise at the Deere Crossing gift shop.
Enjoy lunch at one of the many group-friendly restaurants in Waterloo. Most have complimentary policy for the driver and the escort.
After lunch, enjoy a hands-on farm experience at Hansen’s Dairy Farm, located just outside of Waterloo near Hudson. See the process of getting milk from the farm to your table, feed a calf, milk a cow, or perhaps pet a wallaby. Yes, wallabies in Iowa! End your tour with everyone’s favorite dessert, ice cream!
This family-run operation includes Jay and Jeanne Hansen’s own on-farm bottling and ice cream plant. Sample the fresh milk, and get some exercise as you make your own batch of ice cream and eat the results.
